The Story
The design concept was to create a “Southern” town center with multiple-use buildings that establishes a sense of architectural and aesthetic continuity, encourages a vibrant retail core, and promotes a pedestrian-friendly environment among residential and other uses.
DPR planned an entirely new town center to accomodate Harrisburg’s colossal commercial and residential growth while stemming urban sprawl. The design team developed strategies for enhancing the town’s natural beauty, limiting traffic, and providing a sense of cohesion in the community. The design team’s challenge was the creation of this suburban town’s first center of activities utilizing a North Carolina Southern Vernacular.
