The Story

Imagery (formerly known as Little Italy) is a 298 acre active adult community in Mount Holly, NC for those 55-years & better. The land has been home to the Betchler art studios for more than 30 years of rich history. It lies on a picturesque peninsula, with over 3.5 miles of stunning Mt. Island Lake shoreline, and just a short canoe ride to Latta Plantation Park. The 485 home sites range from 55′ wide to 100′ wide. Amenities include miles of hiking trails, community docks with up to 100 slips, up to 42 waterfront homes with eligible individual docks, community beach, three (3) large amenity areas, clubhouse and swimming pool, tennis courts, six waterfront parks with fishing docks, sculpture-themed gardens, and open meadow areas. By renovating existing houses and art studios the developer created “Celebration Cabins” for a reading cottage, yoga studios, and community meeting space.

Environmental preservation was DPR’s guiding design principle, from conceptual layout, to innovative design techniques during construction. We are pleased to have protected the lake shoreline and existing natural features, and the overall history and character of the land. We achieved less than 24% built upon area by using low impact design techniques such as saving clusters of trees, preserving existing drainage patterns, maintaining a 100′ undisturbed shoreline buffer, providing over 110 acres of active and passive recreational open space.

DPR is proud to have assisted Lennar through successful rezoning and annexation from Gaston county into the City of Mt Holly.  DPR provided full landscape architecture and civil engineering services from conceptual design to full construction design documents, permitting, construction administration, and final engineering certification.

Gravity Sanitary Sewer, Low Pressure Sewer, Sewer Forcemains, & Four (4) Pump Stations, Offsite Waterline and Forcemain extensions, Roadway improvements at project frontages and at Hwy 16 & Horseshoe Bend Beach Road intersection.
