The Story

Oak Farm transforms a historic family agricultural property into a thoughtfully designed neighborhood that honors its rural roots while embracing modern community living. Our team at DPR Design provided comprehensive services including civil engineering, rezoning, and landscape architecture to bring this vision to life.

The 41-acre development features 61 home sites, carefully integrated into the landscape to maintain the property’s natural character. Through our rezoning efforts, we secured approvals that allowed for the preservation of 17 acres of open space, safeguarding environmental areas and providing residents with abundant green spaces to enjoy.

Our civil engineering team tackled the challenge of designing a non-standard road at the community entrance, securing necessary approvals. This innovative approach allows residents to experience a moment of decompression as they enter or leave the neighborhood. The entry road winds through preserved trees and crosses a creek, maintaining the site’s agrarian feel and creating a transitional space between the bustle of the outside world and the tranquility of Oak Farm.

At the heart of our landscape architecture design is a series of central parks that pay homage to the property’s agricultural heritage while serving the recreational needs of the community. ‘The Fields’ evokes the image of a horse pasture while providing open space for active recreation. ‘The Farmhouse’ serves as a central gathering point, housing community mailboxes and offering a shaded area for residents to connect. This open-air structure is a respectful nod to the original farmhouse that once stood on the property.

Adjacent to The Farmhouse, we designed ‘The Backyard’, a multi-functional space featuring a playground, fire pit, and active recreation lawn. This area serves as a hub for community activities and provides a range of options for residents of all ages to enjoy the outdoors.

Our scope extended to creating the entry monument and overall branding for Oak Farm. These elements were carefully crafted to reflect the community’s unique character and its connection to the land’s history.

Throughout the design process, we balanced the need for modern residential infrastructure with a deep respect for the site’s agricultural past. Our civil engineering work ensured efficient and sustainable development practices, while our landscape architecture focused on creating spaces that connect residents to the land’s heritage.

Oak Farm stands as a testament to comprehensive, context-sensitive design. By leveraging our expertise in civil engineering, rezoning, and landscape architecture, we’ve crafted a neighborhood that offers a distinctive living experience. This project demonstrates how residential development can honor a site’s heritage while meeting the needs of today’s homeowners, creating a community that is both rooted in its past and designed for the future.
