The Story
Infinity 260 is a dynamic urban apartment complex in Charlotte that harmoniously blends architecture with landscape. DPR provided comprehensive services including site planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture from the initial rezoning phase through to construction documentation, working closely with the architect and client to bring this vision to life.
The project’s distinctive feature is its unique building layout, which frames an expansive central open space and establishes a strong axial connection between the buildings and landscape. Our design concept, which we call “the organic orthogonal,” plays with this axial and linear nature of the site plan and architecture, creating a playful dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Our civil engineering team tackled the challenges of urban site development, ensuring efficient infrastructure integration while maximizing usable space. The site planning process required careful consideration of building placement, circulation, and open space allocation to create a cohesive and functional urban living environment.
The landscape architecture component of the project focused on creating a rich tapestry of outdoor amenities. We designed a variety of spaces to cater to different resident needs and activities, including:
1. A central pool area with an adjacent sun deck, providing a focal point for outdoor recreation and socializing
2. Outdoor kitchens and grill areas, encouraging community gatherings and al fresco dining
3. A dedicated yoga lawn, offering a serene space for exercise and relaxation
4. Active lawns for sports and group activities
5. Passive recreation spaces, providing quiet areas for reflection and relaxation
These outdoor spaces were carefully integrated with the building layout, reinforcing the axial connections and creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor environments. The “organic orthogonal” concept is evident in the interplay between the linear architectural elements and the more organic forms of the landscape design.
Our rezoning efforts were crucial in realizing the vision for Infinity 260. We worked closely with local authorities to secure the necessary approvals, ensuring that the project’s innovative design approach aligned with local regulations and community needs.
Throughout the design process, we maintained a focus on creating a livable, sustainable urban environment. Our landscape choices prioritized native and adaptive plants, reducing water consumption and maintenance needs while creating a lush, inviting atmosphere.
Infinity 260 stands as a testament to the power of integrated design. By providing comprehensive services across site planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture, we were able to create a cohesive urban apartment complex that offers residents a rich, multi-faceted living experience. The project demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform urban spaces into vibrant communities, balancing density with ample green space and amenities.
